Before you can even think about passing the guard, first you have to do this…
In this 8 min. class (video below) I’m going to show you how to survive and build superior base & posture inside an opponent’s closed guard…
Here what I can pretty much guarantee…
If you develop the tips in this video, you will be dramatically harder to submit or sweep when you find yourself in someone’s full guard.
There are a LOT more subtleties here on the grips, dealing with different pressures, and of course, safely opening your opponent’s legs to pass.
But for right now, applying the Pareto Principle (the 80/20 rule), just what I show you here will nullify at least 80% of an opponent’s game.
Make sure you grab a partner you trust and drill this asap. You’ll notice a BIG difference after just a little practice.
I’ve shown these posture details to black belts who have been in the game for many years and it was like a massive lightbulb doing off.
P.S. I’m going to come right out and say it… The posture and arm positions that are commonly taught for this position are WRONG… Just because people might get away with putting their weight into their frames or leaning forward to get their knee in doesn’t mean it’s ideal, or that you’re not in danger when facing a very skilled opponent. Train this instead!
