Standup Grappling: Head Position for Optimal Control

Continuing on with stand up grappling.

The first topic I covered in my standup clinch & takedowns series was what I call the “Master Posture”…

How to maintain the correct spinal alignment (along with having a proper, well balanced base in all directions) is one of the most fundamental but overlooked aspects to the standup grappling game –– and for that matter, grappling in general.

Now in this next video below, I’ll be isolating a vitally important offshoot of posture: head position.

It’s hard to overstate just how much of an equalizer and advantage developing your head positioning skills will be for the clinch and takedown game….

Good head position can beat dominant arm position –– e.g., your opponent has exactly the grips or hold they want, but now if you own the head control aspect you can completely shut down their ability to capitalize on their position.

It’s that important, both defensively and offensively. Here’s a simple drill you can add to the mix. Then once you’ve got some reps under your belt with this, you can begin to add in hand/grip fighting.
