How To Fix “Mechanical Inefficiency” in Your Technique

Let’s talk about mechanical inefficiency, aka “energy leakage.”

These are inefficiencies in the kinetic chain that often go unnoticed but have very real costs in terms of our ability to optimize our movements.

When a technique fails in Jiu-Jitsu, the common tendency is to look for another technical solution (for example, a counter to the opponent’s counter).

But very often the most optimal solution was there all along, present but invisible within the original technique we assumed that we already understood. In these next two videos, I describe two related examples of “energy leakage” along the kinetic chain and how just addressing this one flaw in posture can completely transform the effectiveness (and efficiency) of your defense in both standing clinch and bottom pin situations.
